国际统计学

国际统计学是利用统计数字比较不国家的情况的学科。而为使不同国家的统计数字可以互相比较及分析，国际间在编制统计数字时都会尽力遵守各国际组织定立的统计准则。

最基本的准则是国际货币基金组织定立的发布数据特别准则(Special Data Dissemination Standard)或一般数据发布系统(General Data Dissemination System)，该些准则定明有关统计数字的范围、周期性、及时性、诚信性、素质及数据开放予公众的程度各方面的指引。

根据发布数据特别准则，对于国际投资者而言，一个国家的基本统计数字应包括:

一般
国民收入
生产指数
劳工
人口
物价
政府
政府收入及支出
政府债务
金融
银行界的分析账目
中央银行的分析账目
利息
股票市场
对外
国际收支平衡
国际储备
贸易
对外投资头寸
汇率
对外债务
而关于各项不同的统计数字的编制方法的详细准则，便是由各有关的国际组织定立。例如:

联合国定立国民收入、人口、行业分类及产品分类的统计准则
国际货币基金组织定立国际收支平衡、直接投资、对外投资头寸及对外债务统计的准则
世界贸易组织定立贸易统计的准则
国际劳工组织定立劳工统计的准则
国际结算银行定立银行统计的准则
而不同的国家都会设立一些政府机构负责编制该国的统计数字，大部份国家会由一个政府机构管理所有的统计工作，但亦有一些国家如美国由多个不同的政府机构负责不同方面的统计工作。
